3 Reasons Why You Should Prioritize A Workcation

Amber, founder of Copperheart Creative here! Once a year, I take a solo trip to rest, reflect, and dream for my business. Not only do I come back refreshed, I always leave inspired and ready to move forward with a plan to finish the last half of the year STRONG!

Traveling solo, I always learn a lot about myself and my business. It’s a great way to step back and see what I am proud of, what is working, and what could be improved.

Bigger teams sometimes do team retreats, but we’re firm believers that as leaders, we have to steer the ship and know where we're going. What better way to do that than with a view on a picnic table at the beach? No WiFi necessary.

We believe it's SO important to set aside time to really dig into your business with intentionality. Workcations are the PERFECT way to delve deep into what's working and what needs to be worked on as you welcome a new season!

Fun Fact: In early 2016, three short months before becoming a business owner, I visited Riviera Maya, Mexico for a friend’s destination wedding. After the wedding, I accidentally bumped into the resort’s evening performer, Ja Rule. After apologizing and then realizing who I was talking to, his wife, Aisha, introduced herself.

She was so kind in sharing why they were visiting, explaining that he was there for work and to perform, but that they made it a workcation. I walked away thinking “hmm… it must be nice to be famous to be able to get paid while taking a vacation. Workcations must only be for people with high-level careers that bring them to cool places. I could never do that.”

Fast forward 3+ years, after becoming a business owner, I saw how quickly my business began to take an effect on me. I quickly fell into the entrepreneurship golden rule of working ON the business vs. IN it. The beautiful thing about owning your own business and working from anywhere… is working from anywhere!

Yes, even a beach. That is when I took my first ever workcation. Since then, I have gone to Florida every year to focus on the goals, vision, and plans for my business to reprioritize, refocus and become inspired again about the work I am doing in my business. Thank you, Ja Rule. PS: I hope they see this one day and realize how much they have impacted my business through this concept!

Here are 3 reasons why YOU should prioritize a workcation this year:

1. Alone time!

I highly suggest taking your workcation alone in order to maximize your time and mental bandwidth. Whether it's a weekend cabin get-a-way or a beachside condo, choose a place that inspires you and allows you to feel happily isolated. Spending a few days alone with your thoughts is also a great practice in self-reflection and self-care!

2. Honest review!

In the midst of the hustle, it's hard to find time to unpack each area of your business and determine what's working and what's not. Workcations allow you the time and clarity to evaluate your company's strengths and weaknesses. Keeping it solo also gives you room to be honest about your review and allows you a safe place to identify where you and your team need to grow this year.

3. Fresh inspiration!

This is the best part of workcations, in my opinion! There's something magical that happens when you go away with a full intention set on dreaming for your business. For me personally, inspiration comes in droves every time I do this! There's so much freedom to dream bigger and plan boldly when you set aside this purposeful time because you literally have nothing else to do!

So, what's holding you back from a little workcation this upcoming year? We really believe this will change the game for you and your business! A weekend away to intentionally dream for your business is truly an investment worth making! What are you waiting for, you could start planning today? :) We want to see your workcation plans!
