4 Things To Say ‘NO’ To This Holiday Season

Repeat after us: NO.

If you really want a strong end to 2019, this word has to become your #businessbestie. From shopping to family parties, the holiday season has a way of taking over our calendars. While this season brings us joy, it also can feel overwhelming in the midst of that year end business push.

As a business owner, you have to find the balance between keep your focus and soaking up the moments in this holiday season. It’s a challenge that our team struggles with every year… hence this post.

So, just in case you need that extra encouragement, we give you permission to say "no"!

Here are 4 things you are absolutely, 100% allowed to say "no" too this season:

1. Hosting the party.

We love holiday parties just as much as the next crew, but hosting can add more strain on your mental bandwidth. Why not take a break and just be an attendee this year? It is less commitment and requires less effort in the midst of your end of the year hustle. If you MUST host, hire some help! An event coordinator, gifted employee, or even a good friend can be a lifesaver when it comes to party planning!

2. Shopping trips.

None of us love the long lines and crowded mall visits during this time of year. Save some time by shopping online or shopping local! Local boutiques and specialty stores are always more pleasant shopping experience, plus you're supporting the local economy.

3. Baking.

Tis' the season for all the baked goods, right?! While baking can be a cathartic practice for some, for many of us it's just another cultural obligation to family and friends. Relieve yourself of the need to offer that perfect fruitcake loaf and use this as an opportunity to support your local sweet shop! Cookies, specialty cakes and other treats can all be found in your neighborhood bakery and, once again, you're supporting small, local business!

4. Traveling.

In some seasons, the hours in the car are encouraged and necessary. But when it comes to seasons of overwhelm, it may be a good time to reevaluate the travel time. Would paying a bit more for a flight be relieving to your schedule? If so, now is the time to start looking for deals! Find ways to optimize or minimize your travel this year to alleviate the stress!

Saying "no" in this season can be extra challenging, let's champion each other through it! It’s a new year around the corner, don’t end with the overwhelm that sometimes the holidays sneaks into our schedules. Soak up the special moments, and say NO to the rest of the expectations, requests, and hustle and bustle swirling around you. You got this!!
