5 Mood-Boosting Ideas To Help Increase Productivity

Moods have a big impact on how much we get done and the decisions we make. Wouldn’t you agree? If mental morale is low, it can greatly decrease our productivity, so it’s worth noting throughout the week. We’re all subject to lower mood swings depending on circumstances or the unavoidable “off days”. There’s no shame in that! it happens to all of us.

That being said, we've found that the more positively we frame our language, heart, and mind — the more satisfied we are with our progress and productivity. We’ve discovered five mood-boosting ideas to settle you into that positive headspace and produce an amazing workday! Let’s walk through them together:

1. Start your morning strong!

Mornings are KEY to positive productivity! We cannot stress this enough to our team and clients. We suggest beginning your morning with some alone time to process, do some inner work, and settle in. This can look like meditation, book study, or a few minutes of journaling. Be sure to drink at least 12oz of water right as you wake up, as well, to get your body properly hydrated! Start integrating some physical activity into your routine. Go on a run, hop on your bike or do a quick yoga class. This will prep your brain and pump in those much-needed endorphins! Once you’ve worked your mind and body, prioritize your day and organize your schedule so you know what to expect as you go. That way you don't begin overwhelmed or with any unsettled anxiety. Make a list, set expectations, even create a time schedule if that helps you. Begin building a morning routine that wakes you up and gets your mind in the right headspace for a productive workday!

2. Put on some tunes!

We all know music not only stimulates the brain, but it can drive our mood as well. Put on some background music while you work that helps you maintain a positive space. And be sure to give yourself the grace to change it up if a playlist isn’t working! If it’s distracting or pulling you away from your project, take a break or throw on a more ambient focus list. One of Amber’s favorite productivity playlists is full of songs that make her smile. Give it a listen?

3. Find ways to connect!

Just a simple conversation with a friend or family member can boost your mood in seconds! Connection is like a secret weapon when it comes to positivity, so use it abundantly! Call your mom during a quick break, send a DM to a good friend, or check in on a coworker. Lead the conversation by keeping it short, sweet, and positive! And for the record, swiping does not count! Social media platforms are great connectors, but also deep time wasters. So keep yourself social free and find more creative ways to make that connection intentional instead! If you can’t think of anyone… Hey! Our team would be honored to hear from you! Shoot us a message!

4. Drink water!

This seems like a no-brainer, but it's something we so quickly dismiss when we're in a tight workflow. Science shows that the greater the water consumption, the better the mood. We’ve found this to be so true! Dehydration causes our brains to slow and our energy to lapse, so take this seriously. If you struggle, set reminders on your phone! There are also some great apps that help with reminders and tracking! (We love the Waterlogged app!) So if you're feeling yourself fall into a darker space, take a breather and chug some h2o!

5. Take time to celebrate!

This is huge for our team! Take time — and this is the kicker — THROUGHOUT your day to celebrate what you're accomplishing. We often do this at the end of a project, but applauding your effort throughout boosts your motivation and mood! Finished a fantastic email? Dance it out! Completed a difficult task? Take a walk and listen to a lighter podcast as a treat! Had a hard conversation? Give yourself some APPLAUSE! By taking the time to honor your efforts you'll frame your workday around positive affirmations and loads of grace.

We hope that you are feeling productive and refreshed! But if not, these tips are sure to come in handy! Move, drink some water, and give yourself some credit throughout the day and you’ll be creating some amazing habits for positive productivity!
