How To Create A Heart-Centered Business

This week I was honored to chat with Stephen Warley on the Life Skills That Matter Podcast! Throughout this episode, Stephen and I connect over building a business that centers around the HEART. We go deep into what it takes to create a successful business that fills your cup vs. depletes you.

We discuss the power of community and how my weekly “Wine Night” was a surprise solution to an overwhelming coffee meeting schedule. Stephen asks some great questions throughout this interview and leaves so much room for deep connection and business strategy. You can listen to the full episode below or on your favorite podcast app! Let’s dive into a few highlights from our conversation!

Why heart matters.

What does it mean to be a heart-centered business? For me, a business with heart is willing to let their client or customer see who they are and why they believe so much in what they do.

Stephen and I go deep into what it takes to cultivate that kind of heart within your team, and we discuss the benefits of operating a business out of a heart-centered mentality. The more you get to know your heart as a business owner, the stronger you’ll be able to show up for your audience.

Leading with heart allows others to go from follower to fandom because they see where you’re taking them and they understand the value of that journey. The more you can let them in and serve well, the more they’ll connect with what you’re doing. From team to client, it all should begin and end with heart.

Customers are going to connect with your heart, your why, and how you’re showing up in the world.

Why community matters.

Stephen and I also get into the art of creating community and what it means to have healthy boundaries and relationships in business. I realized after a few years in business that I couldn’t do what I do without a strong community in place. However, in the process of building that group at networking events, etc, I began to overbook myself with coffee meetings and connection calls.

My intent was to fill my cup with great relationships, but I ended up depleting myself trying to find them! That’s when Wine Night was born. I decided to take those invitations for coffee dates and instead invite them to a weekly Wine Night in my home with other like-minded women. It became a ritual I look forward to every single week, and it’s been really incredible to watch those women come to connect with me, but leave with a whole new set of friends or #BusinessBesties!

I love inviting people into my journey and I’m realizing that while boundaries are key to building a business, so are positive, healthy relationships. Learning to combine the two will not only save you time and headspace, but it’ll also save you from feeling alone in your business as well.

Find your people and stick with them. Link arms, do life. We’re not meant to do this alone.

Daily habits that make a difference.

One of my favorite parts of my interview with Stephen was his rapid-fire questions near the end! Honestly, I think I learned a bit about myself after thinking through my answers, so it was a great exercise. I’d encourage you to look through the questions and maybe journal out your personal thoughts this week! Here’s a little peek into the way I think and work:

  • Wake up time: 5:00 am

  • Core work activities + habits: 1) Work out. 2) Turn my phone on airplane mode. 3) Journal.

  • Ideal work environment: It varies, but is often right after I work out while the endorphins are going, my energy is high, I’m positive, and have a clear outlook.

  • Superpower: Bringing people together.

  • Regains focus by: Accountability from my community.

  • 90-day goal: I’m excited to announce we’re launching new resources in the Copperheart shop and prepping for The Fill Your Cup Conference in September! Tickets are on sale now!

Final words of wisdom.

Stephen asked me for some final advice for his listeners, and my gut had the answer ready to go. As a business owner, one of the most important traits you can cultivate is self-awareness. How do you do that? Seek out therapy. Therapy is an incredible tool for knowing yourself and becoming a better you. It will benefit you and your heart, but it will also benefit your team and the customers you support.

If you’re not ready for therapy, journaling is a great place to start that work. My journaling practice every morning has really transformed so much in my heart and business. It’s a safe space to work out problems, air grievances, and celebrate victories. Basically, find opportunities for self-reflection by asking yourself hard questions and having a safe space to answer them.
