Who to Invite Into Your Goals

As we wrap up the month and you fully flush out your goals for 2021, it’s important to ask yourself who has access to those goals. Why? Because letting someone in to those plans could potentially make or break your business success.

When we share our goals with the right people in the right way, we’re often met with encouragement and accountability. We’re empowered and have someone else there to walk us through the process. We find true mentorship and collaboration. It can be a really powerful choice, to allow someone in on your goals.

However, it can also be detrimental if we open up to the wrong people. It can soul-crushing. We can lose our motivation, our belief in ourselves, or our WHY when our vulnerability is met with shame or disbelief.

So who gets access to these goals you’ve set for yourself in 2021? Who is allowed into this part of your heart? Let’s talk about a few options!

1. A higher power.

Whether you believe in God or another form of higher power, having something deeper to tap into as you begin to move toward your goals is such a secret weapon. It allows you to surrender to something bigger, something unseen. The pressure is no longer fully on you to succeed, but instead you’re given an opportunity to seek joy in the process and know there’s a bigger story being told. You aren’t alone and your purpose is more expansive than you can imagine!

2. Yourself.

It may sound silly, but so often we get in hustle mode as we check off boxes and settle into our daily tasks that we lose sight of why we started. We lose sight of the bigger vision and need reminders of what we’re working toward. To combat this, take time daily or weekly to reflect on those dreams. Write them down, create a system for rewarding steps taken toward that goal. Send yourself voice memos or just take a walk and record yourself verbally processing. You’ll be shocked at how much you know, feel, and NEED.

3. Others.

They say that you have a 65% chance of keeping a commitment if you tell someone you’re going to accomplish it. This number goes up to 95% if you allow them to hold you to regular accountability. This is the secret weapon you’ve been waiting for! Look at your community. Are you surrounded by people who will build you up, hold you accountable, and encourage your goals? If so, take a second to sit in gratitude for that gift. If not, ask yourself if the people in your life align with your goals? Who is lifting you up? Who isn’t? What are you missing? How can you expand your community to fill that need?

Letting others in on your goals can be a scary exercise, and sometimes it feels unsafe because it is. If you’re looking for a strong community, you may just have to create it yourself. And that’s ok! Opening up and surrendering your goals to a higher power, yourself, or loved ones isn’t easy but it will keep you on the right track. You’ll find accountability, strong connections, and maybe even deeper dreams along the way! So keep going, share the goals and build the dreams. You’ve got this!
